1.    Discuss the importance of quality team works, and team building

       It’s not luck that today’s most innovative and successful companies are team oriented. Team work is a great way for people to work together towards the same goal, as long as they have the same mission, share the same ground rules and respect each other. I always say that great minds work better together, that way quality results can be achieved in a smaller period of time. When a team is assembled, their members can help each other by maintaining great communication; it brings trust and union.  Team building is a never ending process, there is always space for improvements and ideas, that’s what teams are about.

2.    How would you handle conflicts in quality teams?

       The inability to accept changes is one of the most common conflict causers on a team. Traditionally, employees where self-centered looking for competition in order to be the best and get recognized for that. Now a day, it’s been proven that team work is more efficient than the traditional culture. Those type of people can find it hard to work in groups. That’s why leaders have to establish and make clear to the team members how a team works before putting it at work, establishing that cooperation and union will lead the group to be a successful as a whole. Clearly, that is in an ideal scenario where we are trying to prevent conflicts, but in a situation that conflict already exists we have to handle them. Some ways are to handle them are promoting communication, this way team members can express themselves on a dialog and reach a resolution. Another way is to make clear that a team is created so that everyone on it has equal power, that trying to build personal agendas or crave power over others is not permitted because that will damage the productivity of the team.

3.    How do you reward quality achievements in a team?

       There are three different type of rewards for team members when they achieve quality. Even in groups, it’s important to acknowledge each team member as an individual. That’s why individual base compensation and individual incentives are important, since this way they know that they are an important part of the group and not just a member. Additionally, team based incentive compensation is another way to reward a team for their work together. This will keep a great team environment, leading them to be productive and giving quality results. 

4.    How do you communicate effectively?

       Communication occurs when two or more people exchange thoughts, feelings, ideas etc. An effective communication happens when a message is sent and the receiver understands it and acts on it, while at the same time sends back a feedback that tells the sender that the intended message was delivered successfully. Feedback is a great method of assuring an effectively communication. Miscommunication is one of the biggest troublemaker on a business or organization. When this occurs, on most occasions the company ends up losing money and time since errors have to be corrected. For this and many other reasons, having an effective communication process is very important and in cases even critical.

5.    Why are listening skills important?

Listening skills are a big factor for being able of having an effective communication. The receiver has to capture the message, decode it and act on it. If the receiver doesn’t have listening skills its probable that the message decoded would not be the intended one. In order to have a good listening skillset, the receiver has to be concentrated, think after listening and evade interruptions. Some inhibitors of effective listening are preconceived ideas, turning out and interferences.

6.    What are the management strategies for quality-focused interpersonal needs?

      In order to have personal and corporate success, people need to have interpersonal skills that will lead them to work together in a positive way. Miscommunications are usually caused by people that don’t own good interpersonal skills. Part of the manager’s strategies is to select personnel that have good or great interpersonal skills. Other are providing proper training so that employees learn or get better on their interpersonal skills that would be needed to do a more efficient job. Additionally, rewarding the employees is a great strategy because they will feel important and recognized, making them want to work harder and to keep improving.

7.    What are the principles of overcoming negativity and conflicts in the workplace?

      Negativity and conflicts in the workplace can harm dramatically the harmony, productivity and even the quality environment. Thankfully, there is a list of strategies managers can take to evade this type of conflicts and negative environments. Establishing effective communication is one of the most common method used. This way the manager can encourage their employees to speak up and tell them that communicating their ideas, suggestions and concerns is a good thing. It’s important that the relation between manager and employee is one trustworthy, this way communication between both can run smoothly and there will be no secrets or hidden information from each other.

8.    How can you manage conflict in the workplace?

 

      There is basically a guideline that a leader should take in order to correctly manage a conflict. First step is to determine the importance of the conflict and how it affects the environment of the workplace. Then, find out who is involved on the conflict and find out if they are willing to communicate and talk about the situation. If they are not willing to speak, giving them a reasonable time to think about it by their own is healthy and eventually they will speak up. When the time comes, find a private place to bring together both parties to have a meeting and speak about the situation and promote communication. Both parties should give their point of view. After that, the middleman has to determine what is the problem. Finally, a reflection takes place and conflict resolution process takes place with the purpose of solving the problem with a result that both parties agree on.

9.    How do you communicate in conflict situations?

       Conflict situations have to be addressed and solved the fastest possible but at the same time we have to be careful in how we do it. If we try to resolve without taking the correct method, it can make things even worse and obviously we don’t want that.  The first thing to do is to eliminate negative attitudes before actually starting the intervention. In order to resolve a conflict, we have to lay the ground rules. That’s why we have to make them clear to both parties taking part on the conflict. In this type of situation is critical to have interpersonal skills and listening skills in order to have an effective communication. If at the end of the process there Is no resolution, the manager has to give the last work and resolve it by his own understanding of what is the fairest for everyone.

10. Why does quality suffer if there is a major conflict?

       When there is a major conflict, quality gets affected negatively on every aspect, that’s why it has to be resolved fast. Quality gets affected since there is no effective communication, as simple as that. Managers should always try to resolve conflicts and maintain a conflict free environment in order to keep quality on the maximum level possible.

Problems reported are that cars are not starting up or suddenly stalling. They managed to find the cause and are taking action by recalling them to correct the fault. This means they need to unexpectedly spend money, but this is the price they have to pay for committing an error. Like mentioned on the comments of the discussion, this may be a wake-up call for Ford’s quality management. This time it was a technically small error, but next time the story could be a different one.
